What's All the Buzz About Linux?

Linux Journal
Linux Journal magazine maintains a web site that is a great starting point, with all sorts of links to Linux-related topics.
Debian Project
Here is the place to find out about Debian GNU/Linux, the distribution I use and recommend. Why? Because Debian is both technically sound and politically correct.
More Linux Links
In the spirit of the World Wide Web, rather than duplicating information available elsewhere, here are some links to pages that I find interesting and useful. Enjoy!

Installing Debian GNU/Linux 2.1

The section below on Debian 2.0 (hamm) is fully fleshed out, stable, and very long-in-the-tooth. This section on Debian 2.1 (slink) consists of a work-in-progress

Building a New Linux Box (slink)

which is now approaching the beauty of the hamm exposition. There are also some rough notes from way back when slink was released.

Upgrading from hamm to slink

Installing Debian GNU/Linux 2.0

With the recent release of Debian 2.0 (hamm), I've put up my own step-by-step instructions for Installing Debian GNU/Linux 2.0.

There are several documents available to help you with the installation but I found that, as a general rule, they include way more information than I need.

What I've done is hack my personal installation notes into HTML in the hope that they will make life easier for someone.

``Safe'' Linux (hamm)

Interested in trying Linux but afraid to so much as sneeze at the hard drive that harbors your fragile Windows setup? Got a ZIP drive? You're in luck.

With only a couple of caveats the instructions for Installing Debian GNU/Linux 2.0 can be used to Install Linux on a ZIP Disk, boot from a floppy, and never touch your hard drive.

A fully configured Linux system (sorry, no X-windows, and the kernel source won't fit) will fit on a single ZIP disk just fine. You can boot up Linux, connect to the net, send and receive e-mail, etc., etc.
